Dr S.K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (NRM), and Dr Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR virtually inaugurated the state-of-the-art environment-controlled water recirculatory facility for fish Broodstock maturation facility developed at the Muttukadu Experimental Station, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai.
Dr Chaudhari lauded the efforts of ICAR-CIBA and urged implementing an environment-controlled recirculatory facility for fish Broodstock maturation under the NICRA programme.
Dr Jena highlighted the crucial role of aquaculture in ensuring food security amid climate change and stressed the need for year-round seed production.
Dr Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA, emphasized the long-standing collaboration between ICAR-CRIDA and ICAR-CIBA in addressing climate change through the NICRA programme. He also accentuated the development of a fish Broodstock maturation facility that allows for the manipulation of key environmental parameters, extending the period for fish seed production.
Dr V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad, lauded the Institute for its achievements under the NICRA Project and for establishing the new facility within the stipulated time.
Dr Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, and Dr B Venkateshwarlu, Chairman, NICRA expert committee, were also present during the programme.
Subsequently, a review of the livestock and fisheries research projects operating under NICRA was held at the Muttukadu Experimental Station, ICAR-CIBA.
