A seminar on ‘Smart Farming in 5G Era’ was organised by the TRAI, Bengaluruat CPCRI Kasaragod in collaboration with the institute on 1 March 2023. Dr. K. Muralidharan, Director in charge, ICAR-CPCRI inaugurated the seminar. While inaugurating he expressed his feelings that the availability of multitude of network options available in the country makes it easy for 5G based smart farming. The other dignitories present during the inaugural session were Sri Chandrachud, AGM, TRAI and Sri Manish Raghav, Senior Officer, TRAI and Dr KP Chandran, Principal Scientist (Statistics).
The different technical sessions of the seminar included, ‘Smart farming opportunities and challenges’ by Dr. V.S. Santhosh Mitra, ‘Application of machine learning in agriculture’ by Dr Rajesh, CUK, Kasaragod, ‘Smart farming: way forward’ by Jagan Mohan Bhalaki, ArableLabs, Bengaluru, ‘AI for farm advisory’ and UAVs for Smart Agriculture’ by Dr. Manjunath, ICAR-DCR, Puttur.
Various options related to networking of farms, increasing irrigation coverage to increase productivity, precision farming, increase in quantity and quality of products, real time exchange of data, use of artificial intelligence, devices and machinery for IoT, kinds of equipments and operations with drones, etc. were deliberated.
There was an interactive session for answering the doubts aroused among the participants on utilization of 5G technologies.
More than 150 delegates, including agricultural scientists, data networking technicians, students and technocrats participated in the seminar.
