Dr. C.P. Sachan, a renowned scientist of Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University, Kanpur, who came as a subject expert, said that today’s agriculture is full of challenges. Climate change, increase in population, reduction in cultivable land and migration of workers have emerged as serious problems in front of us. To get rid of this, we now need to bring such technology and varieties through which grains rich in nutrients can be grown in less land in less time. And for this, such varieties should be invented through the Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry which can give good yield. Along with this, the work of seed and water conservation should also be done properly.

In his presidential address, the Honorable Vice Chancellor praised the progress of the work of the Research Directorate. Especially happy with the presence of innovative farmers from different zones who attended this meeting and their talks, he suggested to the Director Research that their number should be doubled in the next Research Council meeting. The Vice Chancellor also told that we have two types of problems in front of us, floods in North Bihar and drought in South Bihar. Keeping both these situations in mind, we have to carry out our research work. For North Bihar, we have to develop such crop varieties which can be ready in less time and Rabi sowing can be done on time. For good production of maize in Kharif season, BRM 17-4 and BRM 17-6 varieties being developed by the university can be seen as a good option. We have to focus on patent, copyright, packaging, branding. At the same time, crops like pulses, oilseeds and Shri grain will have to be given special priority. For food security and conservation, we have to do farming through organic and natural farming, using biopesticides. Along with this, he also emphasized on value addition of agricultural products and gave necessary guidelines to scientists for its promotion and dissemination.
