On May 28, 2024, the Sabour Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science (ISSS) and the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (SSAC) at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) jointly organized a special lecture program. The event was arranged by President Prof. Nilanjan Chattopadhyay and Secretary Dr. Nintu Mondal of this chapter under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Anshuman Kohli, Chairman of SSAC, BAU. Dr. Bhabani Prasad Mondal, Assistant Secretary of the chapter, anchored the program. Scientists and students from the SSAC department actively participated and helped to organize this program.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Director at the Zonal Research Station, Dumka, and Dr. Shiv Ram Singh, Principal Scientist in Soil Science at ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, delivered lectures on “Measuring Carbon Sequestration in Soils and Plants” and “Soil Quality is the Key to Sustainable Management of Ecosystem Productivity” respectively. The President and Secretary presented bouquets to the speakers. Prof. Chattopadhyay gave the presidential remarks, and Dr. Nintu Mandal provided an overview of the chapter’s activities. Mementos were also presented to the speakers in recognition of their contributions. A minute of silence was observed in memory of Dr. Rakesh Kumar, a former Assistant Professor at SSAC, BAU. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. A. K. Jha, Vice President of the Sabour Chapter of ISSS. Finally, a group photograph was taken on the lawn of the Soil Survey and Land Use Planning building.
