The Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in collaboration with the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, organized a one-day training course on “Farm Machinery for Paddy Straw Management Operation and Field Adjustments” for in-service candidates under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education. A total of seven participants from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Punjab attended the course.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), said that extension scientists must be updated with the latest farm machinery technologies for paddy straw management so that they can guide maximum number of farmers for their benefit and impart knowledge to them which was beneficial for our environment.
Dr Preetinder Kaur, Coordinator of this course, shared the background and benefits of this course with the participants.
Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, discussed the current scenario of paddy straw management in Punjab state.
Dr HS Sidhu imparted knowledge to trainees about Happy Seeder and Dr Manpreet Singh shared the characteristics about Smart Seeder technology.
Dr Aseem Verma and Dr Apoorv Prakash discussed Super SMS, Super Seeder and the machinery for in-situ paddy straw incorporation.
Dr Jasveer Singh demonstrated the Surface Seeder technology for paddy Straw management. The trainees were given hands-on training regarding operation and field adjustments with various machines. The participants actively engaged in the interactive session on paddy straw management machinery.
Later, Dr Preetinder Kaur proposed a vote of thanks and motivated the trainees to guide and encourage the farmers to help in saving of natural resources of Punjab by saying no to burning of paddy straw and adopting PAU recommended technologies for straw management.
