Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of CMFRI celebrated World Ocean Day-2023 on 8th June 2023 with an Awareness Workshop cum Beach Cleaning drive along with the fisher folks and school students of Peda Jalaripeta fishing village between 2.30 to 5.30 pm in association with DHAN foundation. Dr. S. S. Raju, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c) inaugurated and talked about the importance of protecting our oceans. Dr Loveson Edward L gave a talk on Marine life and its use to humans. Shri. P. Shiva elaborated on the cage culture and seaweed culture activities.
The students, fisher folk along with the staff members of VRC of CMFRI took a swachhta pledge to protect our oceans and marine life. Dr. Pralaya Ranjan Behera gave them glimpses of different research activities of the VRC of CMFRI. Then they took a rally up to RK Beach raising slogans to protect our oceans and marine life. A beach cleaning drive was also carried out with the students, fisher folk and staff members of VRC of CMFRI. The programme ended after properly disposing of the collected marine debris. Dr. Loveson Edward L and Dr. Pralaya Ranjan Behera coordinated the events.
