PAU- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bathinda successfully conducted an 8-day skill development training course on poultry farming from August 19 to August 29, 2024.

The programme, held under the ARYA Project, attracted 50 trainees, including farmers, farm women, and rural youth from various villages.

The training began with a welcome address by Dr. Gurdeep Singh Sidhu, Deputy Director (Training), who emphasized the significance of agriculture and allied occupations in enhancing rural livelihoods.

Dr. Ajitpal Singh Dhaliwal, Professor of Animal Science and the course coordinator, delivered comprehensive lectures on key aspects of poultry farming, such as feeding, breeding, brooding, vaccination, disease control, and overall health care.

Dr. G S Dhillon, Professor of Extension Education, encouraged the formation of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to promote collective growth and economic empowerment.

Additionally, Dr. G K Dhillon, Food Technologist at the Regional Research Station in Bathinda, provided insights into the role of processing in poultry farming to boost farm income.

The training concluded with a strong motivation for participants to adopt poultry farming as a viable enterprise to supplement family income and provide healthy, nutritious food. Special emphasis was placed on the benefits of backyard poultry farming in improving the health and economic status of rural farming families.
