The College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a “Farm Women Sammelan” at the village Sudhar. As many as 80 rural women participated in the programme, held under the guidance of Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, PAU and as a part of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) – Women in Agriculture.
Dr Mridula Devi, Director, Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneshwar, who was the chief guest, interacted with the farm women and budding entrepreneurs of adopted villages under AICRP. She also emphasized on techno-socio economic development of the women for their overall upliftment. Later, she along with PAU scientists visited nutri-gardens developed by village women under Nutri-Smart village programme, and appreciated the efforts of PAU team and rural women in this direction.
Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Unit Coordinator-cum-Scientist, motivated the women for active participation in trainings organised by PAU. She also shared the success of Self-Help Group (SHG) formations after receiving trainings from the University.
Dr Renuka Aggarwal, Scientist, enlightened the farm women about the PAU developed technologies and suggested ideas for entrepreneurship development.
Further, Dr Shivani Rana, Scientist, encouraged the villagers to make effective use of drudgery reducing tools from the Technology Resource Centre.
An exhibition of value-added foods products, hand knitted woolen articles and decorative candles was also organized by budding entrepreneurs and SHGs.
On this occasion, village Sarpanch Mr Harminder Singh Gill, CDPO Mrs Ravinderpal Kaur, Cooperative Society President Mr Harmail Singh and Social Activist Mrs Tejinder Kaur were also present and appreciated the event.
