School of Organic Farming, PAU, Ludhiana organized a farmers training programme on ‘Cultivation and Processing of Aromatic & Spice Crops’ in collaboration with KVK, Faridkot on February 15th, 2024. This programme was organized under the aegis of Directorate of Arecanut &Spices Development, Calicut, Kerala and 77 farmers participated in the programme. Dr Sohan Singh Walia Principal Agronomist cum Director coordinated the training programme. He inaugurated the programme and shared the information on profitable aromatic and spice crop based cropping systems. Dr Gurdarshan Singh, Prof (Hort) KVK Faridkot briefed the participates about scope of the aromatic and spice crops in district Faridkot.

Dr Amandeep Singh Sidhu shed light on organic standards and different procedures to get certification for Turmeric and other spice crops.

Dr AS Brar, Assoc Dir (T), KVK, Faridkot briefed the prospectus and problems of cultivation of Aromatic, Medicinal and Spice Crops. Dr Kamaljeet Singh Matharu, Asstt Prof (Ento), KVK,m Faridkot elaborated the strategies for insect and disease management in Aromatic and Spice crops. Lectures on processing of turmeric and other spice crops was delivered by Dr Gurveer Kaur. Dr R K Singh, Professor (Aril Engg) discussed the Agri-Business model for aromatic and medicinal plants & export procedure for agri. Commodities and Dr Kuldeep Singh Bhullar familiarized the participants with aromatic, medicinal and spice crops by arranging an exhibition showcasing various aromatic and spice crops and their products. To popularize turmeric, seed was distributed among the farmers by Dr S S Walia, Dr A S Brar. The participants were highly satisfied with the programme and desired more such kind of trainings in future. The training ended with vote of thanks by Dr SS Walia.
