In a remarkable achievement, a research team from Punjab Agricultural University-Krishi Vigyan Kendras (PAU-KVKs) has won a prestigious ₹15 lakh ICSSR project grant for their innovative project titled “Assessment of Oilseeds and Pulses Production and Processing Potential for Economic Prosperity and Sustainable Development: A Study on Punjab.” Spearheaded by Dr Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.) at PAU KVK Bathinda, the project aims to explore the untapped potential of oilseeds and pulses to drive economic growth and sustainable agricultural development in Punjab.
The dynamic project team comprises experts: Dr Amandeep Brar, Associate Director (Trg.), PAU KVK Moga; Dr Bikramjit Singh, Associate Director (Trg.), PAU KVK Amritsar; Dr. Sanjeev Kataria, Deputy Director (Trg.), PAU KVK Jalandhar; Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor (Trg.), Food Processing and Engineering, PAU KVK Moga; and Dr. Renu Balakrishnan, Assistant Professor, ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana. Their collaborative efforts aim to identify and harness the production and processing opportunities within the oilseeds and pulses sectors, ultimately contributing to the region’s economic resilience.
This groundbreaking initiative has garnered accolades from the university’s top leadership. Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU; Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research; and Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, praised the team for their visionary approach. They commended their commitment to enhancing the productivity, value addition, and market potential of oilseeds and pulses in Punjab, recognizing the project’s potential to transform the agricultural landscape and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
