Under the guidance of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR, ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, organized a vocational training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation as a Subsidiary Occupation” from 23rd to 27th September 2024. Experts from KVK provided technical guidance and practical demonstrations on the various stages of mushroom cultivation.
Dr. Arti Verma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), presented detailed lectures covering the prospects of mushroom farming in Punjab, nutritional benefits, cultivation techniques for different mushroom species, pest and disease management, and the marketing and economics of mushroom production. Participants engaged in hands-on training, including compost preparation for button mushrooms and casing soil preparation.
Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), encouraged participants to embrace mushroom cultivation as a supplementary occupation, noting its potential to combat malnutrition and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. He urged all trainees to incorporate mushroom farming to increase their household income.
