The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Ropar recently concluded a highly successful vocational training programme focusing on bakery and confectionery items. Organized under the auspices of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, the course saw enthusiastic participation from 15 farm women and adolescent girls. Sponsored by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Ropar, the training aimed to equip participants with valuable skills for income generation and entrepreneurship.
Dr Satbir Singh, Deputy Director of KVK Ropar, warmly welcomed the participants, emphasizing the potential for value addition in their agricultural endeavors. He encouraged attendees to consider bakery and confectionery production as a viable enterprise to augment family income and achieve self-reliance.
During the training sessions, Dr Princy, Assistant Professor of Home Science, inspired participants to form self-help groups to foster collaboration and support. She provided comprehensive instruction on preparing various bakery products, including gluten-free biscuits, cakes, doughnuts, cookies, zeera biscuits, and chocolate cookies. Ms Manpreet Kaur, Demonstrator of Home Science, shared recipes for innovative items such as multigrain pizza base and garlic bread, which received high praise from participants.
The concluding session was graced by Dr Parvinder Sheoran, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, who commended the dedication and efforts of the trainees. D. Sheoran highlighted the significant role of KVK Ropar in promoting women’s empowerment through vocational training initiatives.
