The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala, organized a successful tree plantation campaign in the adopted village of Allowal. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 60 farmers and farm women.
Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Professor cum Incharge at KVK Patiala, emphasized the numerous benefits of tree plantation, including pollutant absorption, water quality improvement, shade provision in rural areas, and oxygen production. She also highlighted various activities and training programs conducted by KVK Patiala for the benefit of the local farming community.
Dr. Rajni Goel, Professor of Food Science and Technology, encouraged the farmers to plant more trees around their tubewells and stressed the importance of ongoing maintenance and care for these trees.
Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor of Horticulture, provided guidance on selecting the right fruit varieties, optimal planting times, sources, and planting distances to ensure high-quality fruit production. She offered essential tips on pit preparation, initial care, and nutritional requirements for fruit plants, equipping the farmers with the knowledge to manage their new plantings effectively.
Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Professor of Agronomy, underscored the critical role of environmental stewardship in ensuring a healthy and resourceful environment for future generations. The event included demonstrations on proper fruit tree planting methods, and 250 plants were distributed to the farmers, including 100 mango, 50 neem, 50 jamun, and 50 moringa plants. These trees were planted around tubewells, schools, and common lands, contributing to the village’s green cover and environmental sustainability.
