PAU- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Pathankot, organized a one-day training programme on  30.07.2024 Energy Conservation in the Agriculture Sector under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The event, held in collaboration with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), saw 75 participants, including twelve women farmers from the Pathankot district.

The inaugural session featured a warm welcome from Dr Narinder Deep Singh, Deputy Director of KVK Pathankot, who emphasized the crucial role of energy conservation in agriculture. Experts Mr. Karan Kandhari and Ms. Manjit Kaur from PEDA, along with Mr. Nalin Sharma from BEE, shared their expertise with the participants.

Dr Puneet Sharma, Assistant Professor (SWE) at KVK Pathankot, encouraged farmers to adopt energy-saving technologies recommended by PAU to achieve sustainable and profitable agriculture. The training included lectures on various aspects of irrigation water management, optimal fertilizer use, crop rotation and diversification, conservation tillage, solar-powered pumps, biogas plants, high-efficiency tractors and implements, electric tractors, precision farming, and mulching.

In addition to technical knowledge, participants were informed about various energy conservation development schemes, including available financial support such as loan schemes, subsidies, and government assistance for beginners and those looking to upgrade their apicultural enterprises. Relevant literature was distributed, and plantation was carried out as part of a green initiative.
