Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Kapurthala, under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, recently launched a technology saturation programme on soil test-based fertilizer application in its adopted village, Nasirpur. As part of this initiative, 50 farmers were distributed soil health cards to help them optimize fertilizer use based on their soil-specific needs.

Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Kapurthala, emphasized the importance of fertilizer application based on soil test reports, particularly in intensive agricultural practices. He explained that need-based fertilization can increase crop yield while reducing cultivation costs, boosting farmers’ economic returns. This saturation approach is expected to enhance the visibility and adoption of soil health-based fertilizer management.

Dr Gagandeep Dhawan, Assistant Professor of Soil Science, conducted a training session to help farmers interpret the soil health card results and apply them practically in their fields. He encouraged an integrated fertilizer management approach for the upcoming Rabi season, stressing the importance of maintaining soil health to support sustainable crop yields.

Dr Mandeep Singh, Assistant Professor of Agronomy, encouraged farmers to adopt in-situ crop residue management practices to improve soil and air quality. He also introduced farmers to the latest high-yielding wheat varieties to improve productivity.
