PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, recently organized an awareness camp to promote biofertilizers in the adopted village Rampur Sainian.
At the outset, Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, welcomed the participants and elaborated on KVK’s activities to support the farming community. He highlighted the camp’s purpose and encouraged farmers to adopt resource conservation technologies advocated by PAU, Ludhiana, for environmental sustainability. Dr Bons also shared essential tips on integrated weed, nutrient, and pest management in rabi crops.
Dr Urmila Gupta, Head of the Department of Microbiology at PAU, Ludhiana, outlined the services offered by her department. She detailed the benefits of fermented organic cleanser enzymes and their use in utilizing organic household waste for various cleaning purposes.
Dr Priya Katyal, Microbiologist, introduced Kombucha, a black tea-based functional beverage, advocating its health benefits.
Dr. Pratibha Vyas, Assistant Professor (Microbiology) discussed the use of wheat biofertilizers and explained their application for optimal benefits.
Dr Ana Goyal, Mycologist stressed the potential of mushroom cultivation as a profitable subsidiary occupation. She also conducted a practical demonstration on dhingri mushroom cultivation.
On this occasion, participants were also provided with wheat biofertilizers, Kombucha beverages, bioenzymes, and mushroom spawn for use on their farms and at home under this scheme.
In the end, Dr Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) at KVK, Hoshiarpur, thanked the farmers and farm women for their participation in the camp and advocated the use of integrated nutrition gardening.
