Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, following the directives of the Directorate of Extension Education, organized village-level awareness camps on straw management in villages Kailash and Lumbriwala, block Ghall Khurd.
Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), emphasized the harmful effects of burning paddy straw and shared various sustainable straw management techniques. Dr. Anand Gautam, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), provided insights into the functionality and benefits of using advanced straw management machinery such as Super SMS, Surface Seeder, Happy Seeder, and Mulcher.
Dr. Munish Kumar, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), discussed the nutritional value of straw and its uses in biogas production and as animal feed.
Deputy Director (Training), Dr. Gurmail Singh, encouraged farmers to adopt eco-friendly straw management practices and informed them about the availability of straw management machines for rent through KVK at affordable rates.
The event concluded with Dr. B.S. Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), expressing gratitude to the participating farmers.
The camps also facilitated interactive discussions between farmers and experts on straw management and crop cultivation.
