The Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agricultural University, Sangrur has sown wheat without burning the paddy stubble in the 10 acres of the field of progressive farmer brothers S. Darbara Singh and S. Gurmit Singh of village Kheri. Giving more information about this, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri said that due to the inspiration of experts from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, wheat has been sown without burning the paddy stubble for the last four years using Happy Seeder and Roto Seeder machines. He said that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri is continuously running campaigns to motivate farmers to manage the stubble in the field. Because after the stubble decomposes in the field, it acts as fertilizer. Due to which the amount of humus in the soil increases and the yield of the next crop also increases. By not burning the stubble, the nutrients present in the soil are not destroyed and microorganisms are also saved.
S. Darbara Singh and S. Gurmeet Singh say that by storing the stubble in the field, the environment is not polluted and the fertility of the land also increases. By continuously plowing the stubble in the field, the use of chemical fertilizers also reduces. They said that after harvesting the paddy with a super SMS combine, there is no problem in sowing wheat with a Happy Seeder and Roto Seeder. They say that all the farmer heroes should make a habit of storing the stubble in the field so that humans and animals can enjoy a clean and pure environment. Seeing the enthusiasm and efforts of these two, other farmers of village Kheri, S. Chamkaur Singh and S. Mall Singh, have also sown their wheat by keeping the stubble in the field.
