As per the guidelines of Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana’s Farm Advisory Service Centre, Sangrur has started taking surface soil samples from the adopted village Ramnagar Chhanna of Dhuri block, district Sangrur. Dr Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist (Soil Science), explained the importance of soil testing and encouraged the farmers to apply fertilizers based on soil-test report only. He also emphasized to grow PAU recommended short-duration paddy varieties for effective straw management and groundwater preservation. He further assisted the farmers in taking their soil samples along with GPS location of their respective fields. The soil sampling of the whole village will be done along with irrigation water sampling in the coming days. The farmers showed keen interest in submitting their soil samples for judicious use of fertilizers. They were also motivated to use Azospirillum bio-fertilizer for paddy nursery.
