Under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, the Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Sangrur, organized a village-level awareness camp at Rampura, near Bhawanigarh, to educate farmers on advanced practices for managing weeds, pests, and nutrients in wheat crops.

Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist-cum-Incharge, FASC Sangrur, delivered a detailed session covering critical aspects of rabi crop management. He addressed the symptoms and corrective measures for manganese and zinc deficiencies in wheat and berseem, provided insights on using potassium nitrate to improve wheat yield, and discussed strategies for weed control, particularly for broadleaf weeds and gulli danda.

Dr. Kumar also highlighted the benefits of spraying potassium nitrate during the grain-filling stage to mitigate the adverse effects of high temperatures on wheat crops. Farmers raised queries about soil sampling, appropriate weedicides, and sulfur application, all of which were addressed during the interactive session.

An exhibition showcasing PAU literature, mineral mixture, UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Block), and bypass fat was arranged to provide additional resources for farmers. A banner featuring QR codes for PAU’s social media platforms was displayed to enhance accessibility to agricultural updates and recommendations.

The event witnessed active participation from progressive farmers Yadwinder Singh, Baljinder Singh, and village Sarpanch Ranjit Singh, who appreciated PAU’s efforts in promoting sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.
