The Department of Resource Management and Consumer Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), monitored kitchen gardens and distributed 40 summer vegetable kits in the village Sudhar under Nutri Smart Village Programme of All India Coordinated Research Project – Women in Agriculture. Anganwari workers, helpers, President of Cooperative Society, and 40 farm women and farmers were present at the event.
Dr Shivani Rana, Scientist AICRP –WIA, welcomed the farm women. She delivered a lecture- cum-demonstration on layout of vegetable kitchen garden with an idea to encourage people to have a nutritious and healthy fruits and vegetables from their own kitchen garden. The main aim of the programme was to promote nutritional awareness and bring behavioral change in the rural areas of Punjab, she told.
Anganwaries of the village were also encouraged to develop nutritional gardens in their premises. Most of the adopted households were monitored for better improvement in the kitchen gardens, she added.
