The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), 10.07.2024 conducted a three-day ‘Scientific Beekeeping Training’ course specifically for 10 personnel from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, stated that such trainings will help in extending the role of PAU further even in the remote areas of postings and thereby contribute to income enhancement of communities.

Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Head, Department of Entomology, highlighted the significance of the hands-on-training in various aspects of beekeeping, helping the trainees in understanding and applying the scientific beekeeping principles. The present beekeeping training course was endeavored at providing technical skill in starting and managing beekeeping unit by the NDRF personnel, added Dr Bhullar.

Dr Jaspal Singh, Director of the Course, shared that the trainees were imparted training in seasonal colony management, bee products, bee diseases and enemies, etc. During the active service period, these personnel may act as trainers providing vital first hand technical input on this crucial agricultural subsidiary occupation to their fellows, he observed. This will also create livelihood opportunity for these personnel after attaining the age of superannuation, he said.

Dr Amit Choudhary and Dr Bharathi Mohindru were the technical coordinators of the training and developed the training programme keeping in view the needs of the trainees.
