The Department of Microbiology in collaboration with the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated The “World Bio Enzyme Day” on the birth anniversary of Dr Rosukon Poompanvong, Inventor of Eco Enzyme. Both the departments celebrated this day by spraying bio enzyme in a stagnant pond located in the village Majri of Mullanpur Dakhan.
Dr Urmila Gupta, Head, Department of Microbiology, delivered a lecture on the importance and use of bio enzyme and demonstrated the technology for its production. She explained, “The biological processes that occur within all living organisms are chemical reactions, and most are regulated by enzymes. Bio-enzyme works similar to enzyme as they degrade a large amount of waste within a small duration of time. Bio-enzyme is a substitute of inorganic cleanser being fermented solution and acts as a bioremediation agent. Bio enzyme can be generated easily from different types of fruit and vegetable waste generated in household.”
The faculty members, namely Dr Priya Katyal, Dr Seema Garcha, Dr Keshani, Dr Jupinder Kaur, Dr Pratibha Vyas, Dr Suman Kumari, Dr Shiwani Guleria and Dr Ajit Kaur from Department of Microbiology and Dr Satinder Kaur Khattra from the Department of Civil Engineering accompanied Dr Gupta in this tour and interacted with the farmers and farm women to encourage them to use the technologies recommended by the University.
