The PAU unit of the Atam Pargas Social Welfare Council organised a function at Gurdwara Sahib, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in the honour of the families of the farmers who sacrificed their lives during the Indian Farmers’ Agitation.
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, extended a moral support while honouring 36 families of the martyrs from Ludhiana district.
Welcoming the dignitaries and the students, Dr Varinderpal Singh, Chairman, Atam Pargas and Principal Soil Chemist, P AU, told that the Atam Pargas Team has personally outreached and reviewed the families of 1,024 farmers across the country who lost their lives or were injured during the Farmers’ Agitation. “The detailed information of all the families was available on the Atam Pargas website. Apart from supporting needy families in setting up small businesses for self-reliance, the Atam Pargas team has also supported the education of the children, treatment of patients, construction and repair of houses as needed. One volunteer has been assigned with each family as a coordinator, so that the family can contact the concerned member for their needs,” he added.
Dr Gosal also established a Triveni by planting neem, peepal and banyan trees in the memory of the farmers who lost their lives at Kisan Morcha.
Dr Varinderpal Singh told that Trivenis are being established in the villages of every farmer who lost his life and to keep the memory of the farmers’ agitation alive for future generations.
Ms Tejinder Kaur, a Ph.D student of PAU, conducted the stage and proposed a vote of thanks.
On the occasion, Dr Rishi Indra Singh Gill, Estate Officer; Dr Tejinder Singh Bains, Ex-Estate Officer; Dr Bhupinder Singh, Ex-Director, Research Station, Gurdaspur; scientists from different departments; NSS volunteers and PAU students were also present.
