On 23.08.2024, on the occasion of the first arrival of the Honorable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister of India, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan on the green sacred land of Bihar, a one-day exhibition of Bihar’s heritage Makhana, Magahi Paan, Bhagalpuri Katarni rice and other main agricultural products like tea, potato, China banana, various types of organically produced vegetables, honey, mushroom, coarse grains etc. was organized by the Agriculture Department of Bihar Government. Under the guidance of Dr. D. R. Singh, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, the scientists of Bihar Agricultural University set up a stall in which various Makhana-based technologies were showcased in the presence of Honorable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister of India, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Government, Shri Samrat Chaudhary, Honorable Agriculture and Health Minister, Shri Mangal Pandey, Honorable Agriculture Secretary of Bihar Government, Shri Sanjay Agarwal, IAS, Agriculture Director Manoj Kumar, B.R.B.N. Director of IAS, Horticulture Director Shri Abhishek Kumar, besides other state level officials of Agriculture and Horticulture Directorate of Government of India and Government of Bihar visited the place.

During the visit, detailed information was provided on this historic occasion about the improved Makhana variety Sabour Makhana-1 developed by Dr. Anil Kumar in the last 14 years, Makhana production technology, pest and disease management in Makhana crop, Makhana based crop system techniques, success of Horticulture Directorate funded Makhana Development Scheme as well as scientific techniques for how to develop waterlogged areas in the era of climate change. Officer in charge of Paan Research Center, Dr. S. N. Das presented the achievements of the work and various Paan based technologies before the Honorable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister! They also enjoyed the taste of Magahi Paan with Stevia leaves, which they liked very much! He was also told about the medicinal properties of betel leaf and was presented with a book on its medicinal properties and a bouquet of betel leaves.
