This ICAR-sponsored program aims to enhance the skills of selected Master’s and final-year Bachelor’s degree students in cutting-edge techniques in microbiology, molecular biology, and cell culture for food safety.

Please note that travel, food, and accommodation expenses for students from SC/ST categories and the North Eastern Hill (NEH) region will be covered by ICAR-CIFT, as per the Government of India’s program guidelines.

About the Division: Microbiology, Fermentation, and Biotechnology (MFB) Division of ICAR-CIFT, pioneers in research on seafood microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, aquatic animal disease surveillance, harnessing bioactive molecules from aquatic microbes and aquaculture probiotics. The MFB division is equipped with sophisticated instruments such as microarray, FTIR, PFGE, Bio-analyzer, real-time PCR, etc. The division continually supports the seafood industry by providing services for testing WOAH-listed viral pathogens of shellfish, determining Clostridium botulinum toxins in seafood, and identification of spoilage flora associated with seafood products thereby ensuring seafood safety and contributing to achieving the goal of nutrition for all.

About the training: The present course is aimed for Master’s degree students pursuing in the area of Microbiology, Biotechnology (M.Sc Microbiology/ Biotechnology). The objective of this course is to expose the participants to the recent advancements in microbiology, biotechnology and cell culture techniques.
The programme is designed to give equal significance to both theory and practical exposure. A heterogeneous group of eminent scientists, other than the scientists of the parent division are likely to establish integration among different disciplines. The present course encompasses sharing of knowledge and skills pertaining to advanced microbiological and molecular techniques for improving the competence of students in Biological Sciences.

Duration: The training is of 10 days duration and is scheduled to be organized during 01 October 10 October, 2024. Outstation participants are required to reach ICAR-CIFT latest by the evening of 30th September, 2024. The participants are advised to plan their return journey after 5:00 PM on 10th October, 2024.

Eligibility: Postgraduate students pursuing in Microbiology, Biotechnology and life science are eligible to apply. A total of 25 candidates shall be selected for the course. A screening committee shall make the selection of the candidates as per the guidelines of ICAR. The selected candidates shall be intimated regarding their selection for training on 23 September, 2024.
Procedure of participation: Eligible candidates may download the application format from the ICAR-CIFT website or they can prepare as per the format given in the brochure.
