Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Moga organized a Farmers Awareness Programme focusing on the “Importance of Agro-Advisory Services in Agriculture” at Madheke village, Nihal Singh Wala block. This program was held under the PAU-IMD Project “Setting up of District Agro Meteorology Unit,” coordinated by PAU and ICAR-ATARI Zone-I, Ludhiana, with the participation of 70 farmers.
Dr Jatinder Kaur, Subject Matter Specialist in Agrometeorology at DAMU, welcomed attendees, emphasizing the crucial role of Agroadvisory Services in Agriculture. She highlighted KVK’s ongoing efforts in promoting these services through various initiatives, including awareness camps across Moga. Farmers were introduced to user-friendly mobile apps like Meghdoot, Mausam, and Damini (Lightning app), providing crop advisories based on weather information.
Dr Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director at KVK, engaged farmers, discussing initiatives like training programs, awareness camps, On Farm Trials, and seed production aimed at benefitting the farming community. Dr. Brar also provided guidance on integrated weed and nutrient management in rabi crops.
Dr Manpreet Jaidka, Assistant Professor in Agronomy, addressed farmers regarding management practices in oilseed and pulse crops, emphasizing disease surveillance and timely control in rabi crops.
Dr Prerna Thakur, Assistant Professor in Vegetable Science, lectured on fruit plant management practices during winters and advised regular inspection of potato fields for late blight incidence.
Concluding the camp, Dr Harkanwaljot Singh conveyed gratitude to the farmers and highlighted the significance of Agromet Advisory Services in livestock management. The event aimed to empower farmers with valuable knowledge and practices for enhanced agricultural productivity and sustainability.
