ICAR-National Bureau of Fisheries Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow organized a National Scientific Hindi Seminar-cum-Workshop on ‘New Directions in Fisheries Conservation Science’.

The seminar-cum-workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Vice Chancellor, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. On this occasion, Dr. Sudhir Raizada, former Assistant Director General, ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. Atul Kumar Singh, former Director, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal, Dr. I.J. Singh, former Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Dr. M. Sirajuddin, Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Lucknow University were present as the Guests of Honor.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Singh said that the fisheries resources of the country play an important role in alleviating the problem of malnutrition prevalent in the society, generating employment opportunities and increasing livelihood options for the local communities, therefore, there is an urgent need to conserve fisheries resources, and disseminating the related knowledge to the stakeholders in common language is an important effort.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR emphasized the need to organize such workshops in official language Hindi for effective dissemination of technologies to the stakeholders.

On this occasion, the compilation of scientific findings presented in the workshop was published in the form of a summary book which was released by the dignitaries. The objective of this symposium was to highlight new dimensions of conservation and management of fisheries resources as well as to encourage scientific dialogue in Hindi language.

A total of more than 170 participants from 26 research and academic institutions participated in this workshop in hybrid mode and 122 research abstracts were presented during the program.
