ICAR – National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow organized one day workshop on the occasion of World Wetlands Day on February 02, 2023, with the aim to raise awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet. The theme of the program was “It’s Time For Wetlands Restoration”. Dr. A.K. Singh, Former Director, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal and Dr. B.K.Bhattacharjya were the distinguished guest speakers of the program. Dr. A.K. Singh delivered a talk on “Do we have any Strategic Action Plan to Sustainably Manage our Aquatic Resources?” and focusing the need to develop a strategic plan for the sustainable management of wetlands for future generation. Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya in his talk on “Conservation and Sustainable Fisheries Utilization of Floodplain Wetland” emphasized the need of conservation and how we can sustainably utilize the fisheries resources from the floodplain wetland. Director ICAR-NBFGR, Dr. U. K. Sarkar in his presidential address described the importance of wetlands and emphasized that these are under constant threat and there is a urgent need to raise awareness to conserve them. More than 150 persons including all the staff members and research scholar of ICAR-NBFGR Headquarters, PMFGR Centre Kochi, ARTU Unit Chinhat participated in the programme. As we are also celebrating this year as “International Year of Millets” millets made snacks were also served to all the participants.
