A 4-days training on “Breeding, Seed Production & Culture of Carps” was organized during July 22-25, 2024, by ICAR-CIFA at its Regional Research Centre, Rahara, West Bengal. Inauguration of training programme was done by Dr. N. Pathak of The Neotia University. Dr. B. N. Paul, Scientist in Charge of CIFA, RRC-Rahara, welcomed the trainees and briefed about the various activities of the center. A total of 24 trainees attended the programme, out of that 08 aquafarmers and entrepreneurs are from West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, and another 16 students from The Neotia University. The training programme was constituted of both theory and practical. In theory classes on the basics of Aquaculture were taught. The programme was focused on hands on training on induced breeding of Indian Major carps. The trainees selected the brood fish from ponds for induced breeding and later they themselves injected the hormone to the brood fish. They observed the release of eggs and its fertilization in hatchery. They observed the spawn in hatching pool and further they released the spawn in nursery ponds. Leaving aside of breeding they were also exposed to farm made and its role in low cost feed formulation, fish disease, soil and water in aquaculture and role of live food in fish culture. There was interaction sessions on various aspects of induced breeding, nursery and rearing pond management, fish feed and grow-out culture. The Valedictory Session was chaired by Dr. N.C. Sahu, Senior Scientist and Head, SSKVK, Sonarpur. He encouraged the trainees to take up aquaculture and livelihood for their future work. After the successful completion of training programme the trainees were given the certificates and also encouraged them to develop entrepreneurship by adopting CIFA technologies learned during the training program. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. B.N. Paul, Mr. A. Das, Dr. F. Hoque, Dr. R. N. Mandal and Dr. S. Adhikari.
