The three-day Institute Research Council Meeting, an annual research meet of ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, commenced on July 1st, 2024 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Anup Das, Director of the Institute. Dr. P.K. Ghosh, Founder Director and Vice Chancellor of ICAR – National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Chhattisgarh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Das welcomed Dr. Ghosh and provided an overview of the institute’s research activities. The meeting was attended by more than 75 scientific staff from the Institute headquarter Patna, Research Centre Ranchi, KVK Buxar and Ramgarh. Dr. Ghosh appreciated the research activities of the Institute and offered valuable suggestions to enhance their impact. He said that RCER is a very important Institute of ICAR to serve Eastern states following multidisciplinary system Research. His recommendations focused on improving research efficiency by reducing production costs, ensuring sustainability, and proper problem identification for formulating any research projects. Dr. Ghosh encouraged scientists to emphasize their research efforts on national priority areas and meet state requirements. As part of the event, he also unveiled an extension folder entitled “Fluoride poisoning (fluorosis) in animals from contaminated water: information and prevention”.
During his remarks, the Director of the Institute informed that Institute is focusing on cutting edge areas like digital agriculture, genomics and metabolomics in crops and livestock, drone based nutrient and pest management, carbon farming, smart water management, multiple stress tolerant varieties among many others. Institute is also contributing to UG and PG teaching and technology transfer through innovative single window programme like PRAYAS (Participatory Research Application for Year-round income and Agricultural Sustainability) which covers at least one village each under SCSP and TSP programme across the seven Eastern states (Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Chhattisgarh and eastern U.P). He urged scientists to focus on research as per the targets and come out with innovative products to meet future challenges. He appreciated the scientists for their contributions to growth of agricultural science and serving the farming community. Dr. A. K. Singh, Head, FSRCHPR, Ranchi; Dr. Ashutosh Upadhyaya, Head, DLWM; Dr. Kamal Sarma, Head, DLFM; Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Head, DCR; and Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Head, DSEE critically reviewed the projects and gave valuable insights and suggestions for their improvement. There was a detailed discussion on each and every project and accordingly the projects were formulated and revised for implementation. Dr. Abhay Kumar, In-Charge PME cell of the Institute coordinated the programme and Dr. Shivani, Member of PME cell proposed vote of thanks.
