Pure and flawless beauty of colorful flowers captivated the onlookers during the two-day “Dr MS Randhawa Diamond Jubilee Flower Show and Competition” which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The Department of Floriculture and Landscaping as well as the Estate Organization had organised the show at PAU which evoked an overwhelming response from intense flower and nature lovers, amateurs, government/semi-government institutions and nurseries. Flower arrangements, decorated on the themes Dust to Glory, Perennial, Gracious, Mellow Yellow, Shaan-e-Punjab etc., depicted the sensuous beauty and creativity of the participants.
In her remarks, Dr RK Dhaliwal, Dean, College of Agriculture, who was the chief guest, stated: “The calm and serene beauty of flowers and nature bring divine healing, jollity and elation.” Advocating the commercial cultivation of flowers, she called upon the farmers and city dwellers to promote floriculture and landscaping for they are pleasure-giving and economically sustainable. Later, she gave away the prizes to the winners.
Dr Parminder Singh, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said that flower cultivation was a viable option for diversification due to the constant use of flowers for varied purposes such as religious, marriage palaces, stage and car decorations, gardens, farm houses, etc.
Maximum prizes were clinched by the participants from BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana; DAV Public School, BRS Nagar and Pakhowal road, Ludhiana; Mata Prasad SPM School, Ludhiana; Police DAV School, Ludhiana; SKM School, Ludhiana; Delhi Public School, Ludhiana; Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana; Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana; GHG Harparkash College of Education, Sidhwan Khurd; Ludhiana Verka Milk Plant; and nurseries and individuals from Ludhiana, Malerkotla and Patiala.
