Several factors can contribute to fruit drop in lemon trees:

  • Environmental Stress: Extreme temperatures (too hot or too cold), drought, or waterlogging can stress the tree, leading to fruit shedding. Sudden changes in weather are also a common trigger.

  • Nutrient Deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients, particularly micronutrients like Zinc (Zn) and Boron (B), can weaken the fruit stem attachment and cause premature drop. Potassium (K) deficiency can also play a role.

Nutritional Management for Fruit Retention

  • Balanced NPK: Ensure your trees receive adequate Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) as per soil test recommendations. Potassium is especially important for fruit quality and retention.

  • Soil Health: Maintain good soil structure and organic matter content. Healthy soil supports a strong root system, which is essential for nutrient and water uptake.

  • Weed Control: Keep the area around the tree free of weeds, as they compete for water and nutrients.
