The Punjab Agricultural University Farm Advisory Service Center, Sangrur organized a meeting of the Punjab Young Farmers Association with great enthusiasm. The chief guest of the meeting was Honorable Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director Extension Education, PAU, from Ludhiana. Addressing the meeting, he said that the young generation should come forward and come towards farming so that the income can be increased by adopting new technologies recommended by PAU. He made the farmers aware about using fertilizers only after getting the soil tested. He explained the results of the soil of the fields of village Ramnagar Chhanna adopted by the Farm Advisory Service Center, Sangrur and said that 67% of the samples were found to have high phosphorus content and farmers can get good yields even with less use of DAP fertilizer. He emphasized on storing manure, green manure and straw in the field to increase the health of the soil. By continuously pouring straw in the field, the consumption of chemical fertilizers can be reduced in the third year. He also encouraged the farmers to keep a ledger to keep track of their farm expenses. Dr. Harbans Singh Chahal, Chief Agricultural Officer, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sangrur, informed the farmers about the subsidy provided by the department on farm machinery and gypsum.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist, Farm Advisory Service Center, Sangrur, coordinated the meeting and got to know the farming of each participating farmer in detail. He also shared nutritional tips with the farmers to get good yield from the wheat crop. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, District Extension Scientist, Farm Advisory Service Center, Barnala shared tips on weed problems and prevention with the farmers. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery) KVK Kheri gave detailed information to the farmers about the machines used for in-field management of paddy stubble such as Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder and Surface Seeder. Dr. Gurbir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) KVK Kheri made the farmers aware about the prevention of wheat pink bollworm and other diseases. Dr. Narpinderjit Kaur, Horticulture Development Officer made the farmers aware about the various schemes and subsidies being run by the Horticulture Department.
Finally, progressive farmers Kuldeep Sharma, Hardeep Singh, Dhanna Singh Gora, Sehajpreet Singh, Jagpal Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Bal Krishna, Pargat Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Amrik Singh, Makhan Singh, Ravinder Singh, Surinder pal Singh etc. shared the problems and suggestions of the farmers in the meeting. Finally, Dr. Ashok Kumar thanked all the farmer heroes and officer companions who came.
