22.04.2024 Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakshadweep today. On this occasion, a Pre-Action Plan-cum-Farmers-Scientists Interaction Meeting was organised.

During interactions, with farmers and entrepreneurs, Dr. Pathak emphasized that the technological interventions in pristine territories like Lakshadweep should be friendly with its fragile environment and should be fostering its natural beauty. He urged the KVK to attend to the specific needs of the stakeholders raised during the discussion, especially the capacity-building requirements. The Director General also exhorted all the ICAR institutes working on the island to support the KVK for outreach of technologies.

Further, he reviewed the research and development interventions undertaken in agriculture and allied sectors by KVK and ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi. He appreciated the KVK for undertaking various technological interventions in different islands of Lakshadweep amidst several constraints of logistics and manpower. Dr Pathak lauded the efforts of ICAR-CMFRI towards fisheries development, especially its efforts to foster the climate resilient livelihood avenues like seaweed and marine ornamental fish farming.
