The Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Chettalli organized a “Result Demonstration of Girdling Technology in Off-season Litchi on 13th December 2024 at Laxmijala Estate, Madapura, Kodagu, Karnataka. The main aim of the programme was to showcase the effect of girdling technology in Off-season litchi on flowering and yield to the litchi growers of Kodagu and Hassan district. About 50% of primary branches were girdled with 4 mm width during first week of April (4-5 months before flowering) in Shahi cultivar.  The programme was started with welcome address by Dr. Rajendiran S., Senior Scientist & Head, CHES, Chettalli. Dr. Muralidhara B.M., Scientist (Fruit Science), CHES, Chettalli briefed the girdling technology and its advantages in off-season litchi cultivation.

Dr. Rajendiran, S. explained about scientific nutrient and water management techniques for production litchi. Dr. Rani, A.T. explained about important pests and diseases and their management strategies for successful cultivation of litchi. We also demonstrated the girdling technology to farmers. The farmers and scientists discussed in detail about different problems and management strategies to overcome problems in litchi production. Nearly 20 farmers from Kodagu and Hassan district were participated in this programme.
