23 October 2024 A two-day international workshop on real-time automated pest monitoring of horticultural crops, organized in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Department of Vegetable Science, Department of Entomology of the University and Western Sydney University, Australia and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, concluded under the Pak Project of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The workshop was organized as a platform for the exchange of knowledge between Indian agricultural researchers and international experts, with the aim of building international cooperation in dealing with the challenges of pests and diseases in horticultural crops. The workshop addressed the growing need for change in modern automated systems.
The closing session was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan. The Vice Chancellor called upon the scientists that there is a need to develop new technology in agriculture, especially horticultural crops, and he emphasized the need to do research work in collaboration with advanced institutions of the country and abroad through networking in the coming times. Addressing the young scientists, he appealed to them to work on AI, ML and other aspects and share the responsibility of providing quality food. Automated systems are useful for identification of pests and diseases and for facilitating population dynamic assessment. This will ultimately provide new modern technology to the farmers.
Dr. S.K. Kashyap, Dean, College of Agriculture, focused on the importance of international institutional collaboration. Dr. Ranjan Srivastava, Professor, Department of Horticulture, convener of this workshop, gave information about the subject matter of the workshop. He informed that participants and invited speakers from various institutions like WSU Australia, Purdue University, USA, IIT Delhi, IARI, PAU etc. presented their research papers. Dr. Chauhan also distributed awards to the best student speakers of each session.
