A two-days’ training programme on “Value Addition of Dairy Farm Waste” was organized by ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle ,Meerut on 20-21 March to sensitize the farmers and livestock owners under Schedules Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) project of the Institute. The chief guest of the programme, Dr. Umesh Singh, Director, ICAR-CIRC, emphasized the importance of effective management of livestock waste and conversion of organic waste into wealth. He motivated farmers to take initiative to utilize animal dung in villages. He also motivated farmers to be innovative and produce the best product that can lead buyers to seek their products. This will also help to create new income opportunities in rural areas and improve the income of farmers and other rural people by helping them to recycle their waste.
The two invited presentations addressed emerging issues in cattle waste management. Ms. Minni Manocha and Mr. Satendra Nagar demonstrated the efficient utilization of cow dung into various products such as diyas, murtis, aggarbattis etc. The event was organized by Dr. R. Ranjan, Senior Scientist and member of SCSP. He explained the benefits of synergistic interaction between SCSP staff and farmers to achieve the desired development. The programme ended with the distribution of inputs such as milk buckets and veterinary first aid kits to the farmers. A total of 105 farmers from over 5 districts participated in the workshop.
