ICAR-National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology in Bengaluru organised a farmers-scientist interaction meeting today focused on scientific feeding for dairy farmers. The programme aimed to educate farmers on improving hygiene, increasing milk production, and preventing reproductive issues in dairy cows.

Dr G.T. Ramaiah, Deputy Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, Kolar, Karnataka, spoke about reproductive management and the importance of mastitis control in dairy cattle. He also briefed the importance of the Farmer Scientist interaction meet and input distribution organised by ICAR NIANP Bengaluru.

Dr Suresh Honnappagol, Former Registrar & Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University Bidar, Karnataka & Former Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Govt of India, interacted with farmers about the impacts of distributed materials by ICAR-NIANP and emphasized the scientific and economic successful animal farming.

Dr Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, ICAR-NIANP, highlighted the importance of scientific feeding for dairy cattle and interacted with dairy farmers. He also stressed upon the role of ICAR-NIANP in contributing to Nutrition and Welfare of livestock in different physiological stages for augmenting productivity.

The event included the distribution of various supplies to selected SC and ST dairy farmers from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu under the DAPSC/DAPST Scheme. Each farmer received 200 kg of cattle concentrate feed, rubber mats, stainless steel milk buckets, veterinary medicine kits, 5 kg of Fertimin Plus, 5 kg of OmeB, jute bags, informative leaflets, a notepad, and a pen.

A total of 145 dairy farmers belonging to Scheduled castes and 18 dairy farmers belonging to Scheduled Tribes attended and benefitted from the programme.
