Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a district level camp on paddy residue management on 05.11.2024 at KVK under the leadership of Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Associate Director (Training). About 150 farmers participated in this camp and interacted with KVK scientists to discuss efficient methods and technologies for crop residue management. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal called upon the farmers for efficient management of crop residue for effective utilization of natural resources and protection of environment for agriculture. He advised to adopt recommended technologies for management of paddy stubble. They discussed in detail about various machines like Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder, Mulcher, Baler, Seed Drill etc. for efficient management of paddy straw. Dr. Manisha Bhatia Assistant Professor (Home Science) gave information about making decorative items from straw. Dr. Ajay Kumar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) warned about the loss of nutrients in the soil due to burning paddy straw and also highlighted the importance of soil testing. Mrs. Reet Verma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) gave detailed information about the control of insects and rats in wheat. Dr. Arvindpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) told the farmers about cultivating mushrooms from straw and also gave information about the importance of straw in horticulture. Dr. Amanpreet Singh shared detailed information about organic farming and integrated farming system. Finally, the scientists answered the farmers’ questions and also distributed necessary publications on crop residue management and machinery.
