Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mansa organized a block level camp at village Khatriwala regarding proper management of paddy stubble.
At the beginning of the camp, Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mansa, during his speech, appealed to the farmers to take maximum advantage of the facilities available at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He shared detailed information about the surface seeder method with the farmers.
During this camp, he also motivated the youth to adopt agricultural allied occupations. Similarly, Alok Gupta, Assistant Professor (Soil and Water Eng.) made the farmers aware about the machinery used for stubble management. Advising the farmer heroes to plough the paddy stubble in the field, he explained in detail about the surface seeder, smart seeder developed by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He said that by burning the stubble, where the existing elements in the stubble are destroyed, the bacteria growing on the surface of the soil also come under the grip of fire. This causes damage to soil, air, water, animals, birds and humans. He said that to maintain the long-term success of agriculture, it will be necessary to maintain the health of water and soil.
Dr. Tejpal Singh, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) explained the importance of vegetables in terms of food security during the camp and motivated the farmers to plant vegetable gardens.
At the end of this program, Dr. Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) motivated the farmer brothers to use pesticides for Rabi crops as per the standards specified by Punjab Agricultural University. Along with this, he gave information about the treatment of wheat seeds with bacterial inoculants and made them aware about the importance of bacterial inoculants in soil health and crop yield. He said that the farmer brothers can get this inoculant from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra while buying wheat seeds.
More than 100 farmer heroes participated in this village level camp and the experts answered the farmers’ questions satisfactorily. On this occasion, agricultural literature was also made available for the convenience of the farmers.
