25-26th September 2024, Arunachal Pradesh

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone VI, Guwahati, organized a 2-day (25th-26th September 2024) annual zonal workshop, in collaboration with the Dept of Agriculture, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, at Itanagar. The workshop is designed to evaluate the activities of 47 KVKs in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim from the past year, as well as facilitate knowledge sharing among experts and KVK officials.

The Chief Guest, Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighted the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in bridging the gap between technology and farmers. He emphasized the importance of integrated farming systems, post-harvest management, and capacity building of farmers on new technologies for ensuring agricultural sustainability in the region.

Dr G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, emphasized the importance of agri-entrepreneurship in transforming livelihoods.

Dr V.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, addressed the significance of identifying Geographical Indication (GI) crops in Arunachal Pradesh.

Shri Vivek Pandey, APC, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh; Smt Koj Rinya, Secretary, Dept of Horticulture, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh; Dr R. Murugesan, Director, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Guwahati; Dr P.K. Chakrabarty, Former ASRB member; Director, Line Departments, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh; Senior Scientists & Heads of KVKs and officials from ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, also graced the occasion.

At the workshop, the Best KVK and Best Extension Worker Award 2023-24 for Zone VI were presented. Additionally, the ISO 9001:2015 certificate for ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, along with publications from the institute and KVKs, was released by the dignitaries. On this occasion, the Minister also digitally launched the Traditional Indigenous Village Knowledge Bank for the Adi, Apatani, and Monpa tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.
