PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur organized a field day on direct seeding of rice (DSR) at village Todarpur on 17th September, 2024 to showcase this resource-saving technology to the farmers of the area. This programme was organized in collaboration with Bayer Crop Science, Ltd.

At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur accorded a warm welcome to the farmers and focused on promotion of DSR technology for saving depleting level of underground water. He said that the main aim of the programme was to create awareness among the farmers towards cultivation of paddy with DSR technique, through the principle of seeing and believing. Dr. Bons informed that around 150 acres have been sown with DSR technology in Todarpur and adjoining villages of Panjaur and Pandori Ganga Singh and complimented the farmers for adopting this water saving technology.

Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) also highlighted the benefits of direct seeded rice and emphasized on the conservation of natural resources and water saving technologies. He also discussed about the fertilizer scheduling, integrated weed management and other related aspects of direct seeded rice technology. Dr. Ajaib stressed on the need to adopt this technique as per area and soil structure. He also discussed about paddy residue management technologies with the farmers.

Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science) and Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) discussed the aspects of seasonal management of dairy animals and integrated nutrition gardening.


The representatives from Bayer Crop Science, Ltd. i.e. Mr. Rohit Monga, Mr. Romit Singh and Mr. Satnam Singh also shared weed management practices in direct seeded rice with PAU recommended weedicides.

On this occasion, progressive farmer from village Panjaur, S. Kulbir Singh shared his experience of DSR. He informed that he took to DSR last year due to labour shortage and upon seeing the benefit of this technique he has undertaken DSR on 10 acre area this year. He also exhorted other farmers to adopt this technique for saving of water.

For the benefit of the farmers, sale of seed of berseem, toria and onion, winter vegetable seed kits along with mineral mixture, bypass fat, and UMMB lick was facilitated and PAU literature was also provided to the farmers.
Progressive farmers from the villages of the area, Todarpur, Panjaur & Pandori Ganga Singh- S. Sandeep Singh, S. Sukhwinder Singh, S. Kulwinder Singh, S. Jaspreet Singh Khalsa, S. Pardeep Singh, S. Harjit Singh, S. Satnam Singh, S. Gagandeep Singh, S. Karamjit Singh, S. Jasmanpreet Singh Khalsa, Kulwaran Singh, S. Manjinder Singh, S. Sandeep Singh, etc. were present during this field day and had a fruitful discussion with the experts.
