Under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized a vocational training course on the “Establishment of Agro-Processing Complexes” from September 9 to 13, 2024.
Inaugurating the training, Dr Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of processing agricultural produce to enhance profitability. He emphasized that adopting suitable agro-processing models and complexes is vital for boosting farmers’ incomes and providing valuable employment opportunities for rural youth.
Dr. Kirandeep, Assistant Professor (Processing and Food Engineering), provided comprehensive insights into the importance and functioning of agro-processing complexes. She delivered technical lectures on processing cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and spices and conducted a hands-on demonstration of a turmeric washing and polishing machine. The participants also had the opportunity to learn from successful entrepreneurs and progressive farmers who shared their practical experiences in agro-processing.
Mr. Vishavdeep Singh, Field Executive of Punjab Agri Export Corporation Limited, delivered a special lecture on Punjab Agro’s role in promoting and exporting processed agricultural products.
On the concluding day, Dr Pardeep Kumar encouraged participants to implement the knowledge gained during the training. He assured them of continued support in their future endeavours related to agro-processing.
