On the historic occasion of completing 50 years of its establishment, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, organized a seminar on ‘Rejuvenating Punjab: Nurturing Young Talents’ in the campus here today. The event was organized to commemorate the glorious saga of the Study Circle in providing selfless service to mankind and for apprising the youth of their role in the growth and development of the Punjab state. A panel discussion comprising eminent experts, dignitaries and erudite speakers was organized to acquaint the youth with the rich cultural heritage of Punjab and for bringing to fore insightful perspectives on the topic.

Chief Guest, Dr Charan Singh, Chairman, Punjab and Sind Bank and CEO-cum-Founder Director of EGROW Foundation, appreciated the unceasing efforts of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle in directing the energy of the youth in creative and constructive fields; and for engaging them in enriching and knowledge-enhancing deliberations from time to time. He underscored the instrumental role of the youth in unlocking new vistas of progress, thereby motivating them to work in solidarity. Harping on the emerging challenges in Punjab, he further emphasized the need to strengthen the agricultural sector and MSMEs that would go a long way in boosting the economy of Punjab.

Guest of Honour, Padma Bhushan Dr S.S. Johl, a celebrated Economist and former Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda, spotlighted the need to create opportunities for the youth, mentioning the relevance of skill development of young India. Sharing interesting anecdotes from his personal experience, he inspired Gen Z to engage in leadership roles. Dr Johl appreciated the budding leaders for their raring enthusiasm in initiating the winds of change without waiting for opportunities to knock at their door.

In his presidential remarks, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, lauded the humanitarian endeavours of the good Samaritans who are continuously engaged in empowering the youth of Punjab. It is due to their unwavering commitment to the noble cause that the youth of Punjab is playing a transformative role in varied capacities, he added. Dr Gosal further felicitated the philanthropist organization for accomplishing a significant milestone and for ushering in a new realm that signifies its renewed commitment of undertaking newer explorations for the welfare of the state of Punjab.

Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, while proposing the vote of thanks, highlighted the key contributions of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle. He congratulated the students for taking up leadership roles and for bringing a graded change in the society with their unceasing endeavours. Several students were also felicitated by the dignitaries. Mr Tarun Kapoor was awarded with ‘Dr Daleep Singh Deep Memorial Award’ for his meritorious journey at PAU; while 12 others were conferred upon the ‘Budding Young Leaders’ Award.

The event also saw the esteemed presence of S. Partap Singh, an alumnus of the first batch (1974) and many former student members of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle. A documentary and an exhibition illuminating the incredible saga of the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle was also displayed.
