In a dedicated effort to promote environmental sustainability and agricultural awareness, 5.08.2024 the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) Sangrur launched a green drive in the adopted village of Ramnagar Chhanna. The initiative, supported by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Director of Extension Education at PAU, involved the distribution of over 100 fruit and ornamental saplings. The distributed saplings included fruit plants such as guava (Shweta variety), lemon (Pb Baramasi nimboo), amla (Neelam variety), and ornamental plants like bottle palm, amaltas, gulmohar, Koelreuteria paniculata (golden rain tree), and jacaranda. These plants were procured from PAU Ludhiana and given to farmers, students of a private school, and the Government Primary School in the village.

Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist and coordinator of the event, educated the students about the importance of fruit plants and the medicinal uses of ornamental trees. He emphasized the urgent need for a green and healthy environment, soil and water conservation techniques, the necessity to stop residue burning, the judicious use of chemicals, and the economical use of water for domestic purposes. Additionally, he demonstrated the proper method of digging pits for planting.

The event was graced by the presence of Sh. Bipan Singh, Principal of the private school, S. Kulpreet Singh from the Primary School, S. Garib Singh, Ex-Sarpanch, and S. Amrik Singh.
