Under the direction of the Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana, and the supervision of the Deputy Director (Training), PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bathinda, two one-day training camps were organized to empower cotton farmers in the villages of Kot Fatta and Kot Bhara. These events, held on June 3 and June 5, 2024, aimed to educate farmers on best practices for sustainable cotton cultivation.
In Kot Bhara, the training held on June 3, 2024, educated 38 farmers. Dr. G.S. Dhillon delivered lectures on good agricultural practices and marketing strategies, equipping farmers with the knowledge and skills to enhance their agricultural productivity and profitability. Dr. Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided insights on integrated pest and disease management, highlighting effective control strategies.
On June 5, 2024, a similar training session in Kot Fatta gathered 40 farmers. Dr. Vinay Pathania conducted lectures on integrated pest and disease management and good agricultural practices, echoing the strategies discussed in Kot Bhara. Dr. Tejbir Singh Buttar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), provided insights into Integrated Nutrient Management, optimizing nutrient use for better crop yields, and discussed the role of short-duration paddy varieties in natural resource management.
Both training sessions featured a practical field visit where farmers learned survey methods and pest identification skills. These hands-on experiences were instrumental in helping farmers better understand their challenges and manage them effectively.
Participants from both villages provided positive feedback, expressing appreciation for the valuable insights gained from the sessions. The events underscored PAU-KVK Bathinda’s commitment to empowering farmers with the latest agricultural techniques and information to improve their farming practices and enhance productivity.
