ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai in association with and the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE) Mumbai jointly conducted a certificate course on Shrimp Crop Insurance and Loss Assessment during 29th April to 3rd May 2024 at ICAR-CIFE Mumbai. Twenty two participants consisted of fish farmers, officials from insurance companies, State Department of Fisheries and students attended the programme.

The course module includes class room discussions on the technical subject matter, field visits, case studies and practical exercises on loss assessment. The resource persons include from insurance companies, National Fisheries development Board (NFDB) and scientists from ICAR CIBA and ICAR CIFE.

On 29th April 2024 Dr Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA in the inaugural address highlighted the genesis and overall growth perspectives of shrimp crop insurance in India. Dr. C. N.Ravishankar, Vice Chancellor and Director of ICAR-CIFE stated the importance of convergence between ICAR institutions and NFDB for promoting shrimp crop insurance on a sustainable manner for the welfare of farmers. Mr Pradeep Kumar Executive Director NFDB Hyderabad explained the role of NFDB in developing shrimp crop insurance in India

On 3rd May 2024 in the valedictory session Dr. N. P. Sahu, Joint Director, ICAR CIFE Mumbai highlighted the importance of collaborative programmes and further strengthening the same

The participants were given Certificates and their feedback indicated the overall success of the Course.

Dr.T.Ravisankar, Principal Scientist, CIBA and team leader, shrimp crop insurance programme, Dr.C.V.Sairam, Principal Scientist, CIBA, Dr.P. S.Ananthan Principal Scientist, CIFE, Dr Shivaji Argade, Scientist, ICAR-CIFE and  Dr. S. Munil Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR CIFE jointly coordinated the programme with their team.
