KVK, Malyal conducted a Field Day on “Cultivation of Sunflower in Paddy fallow” under Tribal Sub Plan, 2023-24 at Eshwaragudem of Kothaguda Mandal on 13-03-2024. On this occasion, the host farmer Sri Mokalla Laxmaiah shared his experiences in cultivation of Sunflower in Paddy fallow in terms of sowing, seed rate per acre, water management, fertilizer management, indigenous technologies against birds’ damage and expected yield. Subsequently, some farmers – Mokalla Buchiramulu, Eeka Ramesh also shared their experiences in this crop cultivation. Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator addressed the gathering and explained about advantages of growing Sunflower through zero tillage, ridge and furrow method with minimal usage of moisture from soil as well as under less irrigation facilities. She also suggested to market the sunflower oil in towns, cities with high net returns by taking advantage of growing free from pesticides and use of less fertilizers. She also requested farmers to take up more area with Oil seed crops like Sunflower, Castor, Sesame, etc in Paddy fallows during next year. Dr. E Rambabu, SMS (Horticulture), Sri J. Uday, MAO, Kothaguda, Smt E. Susmitha, AEO, Bathulapalli cluster, Sri Md.Ankush, AEO, Marrigudem cluster and 72 farmers and farm women from Eshwaragudem & Doravarivempalli of Kothaguda Mandal participated in the programme.
