ABOUT ICAR-CMFRI
The Government of India established the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) on 3rd February 1947 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and later it joined the Indian Council of Agricultural Research family in 1967. In the course of 76 years, the Institute has emerged as a leading tropical marine fisheries research institute in the world with its multidisciplinary approach to research in marine capture and culture fisheries. Human resource development by organizing training courses is one of the mandates of the Institute to upgrade the knowledge base of scientists, teachers, and researchers engaged in the area of marine fisheries in the country. The Institute has the best library in the Asian region for fisheries and a national referral museum for marine organisms.
IMPORTANCE OF THE TRAINING
The oceans are the lifeblood of our planet, covering over 70% of its surface and providing essential services like food security, climate regulation, and coastal protection. However, this vast and diverse marine environment faces numerous threats, including overfishing, pollution, and climate change. Understanding and protecting marine biodiversity is crucial for ensuring the health of our oceans and the well-being of future generations. Through this five-day training, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of marine biodiversity, taxonomy, ecosystem functions, and environmental challenges, and develop skills and tools for assessing, managing and conserving marine resources.
